Last year my wife picked up a stylish piece of decorative art for our fifth wheel. A hand carved cedarwood eagle from a local Vancouver Island native artist. We thought it would look awesome mounted above our entrance doorway.
Rather than uses screws or drill a hole in the wall for mounting hardware I decided to use some 3M double sided indoor/outdoor mounting tape. I remembered using it in the past to attached house numbers to a stucco exterior wall outside our sticks and bricks place, and it had worked wonderfully.
- Outdoor mounting tape is weather resistant double sided conformable tape
- Can be used on a variety of surfaces such as painted cement or brick, glass, metal, tile, ceramic and more
- Faster, safer more versatile than screws and nails
- Can hold up to 5-pound weight
- Measures 60-Inch length by 1-Inch width in size
The Scotch double sided mounting tape is plenty robust enough to hold any lightweight item and stuck extremely well to the textured RV wall material. It’s a year later now, and the carving is as firmly attached as the day I mounted it.
One caveat, though: his stuff is meant to be permanent!
(Note: This is a permanent tape that may cause damage if removed. If you must remove the mounted object, use a piece of dental floss or wire, held tautly between two hands. Pull back and forth, to split the tape, and release the mounted object. *Not recommended for use on wallpaper or delicate surfaces. – Copied from the Scotch 3M mounting tape instructions pdf)
In the time since mounting, our RV has traveled in super dry desert humidity and damp coastal climates. Plus undergone some serious vibrations traversing numerous back country roads. I give the Scotch 3M tape two thumbs up!
