Camped with a Herd of Roosevelt Elk Hwy 101 California

We’ve past by the Elk Country RV Resort several times on our journeys up and down the coast on Highway 101 and marveled at how the local Roosevelt Elk herd was sometimes right in the campground.

This time through, we decided to stop for the night. Anne was stoked for the chance to photograph the elk so close up and with such an interesting background.

Here is a bit of footage I shot of the elk herd and the campground.

Elk Herd in Elk Country RV Resort

Elk Country RV Resort located just south of the Redwood National Park between Eureka and Crescent City CA. Access is easy as the park is right on highway 101. Easy in and easy out as we RVers say. Except of course when the elk decide to cross!

Elk Country RV Resort Check In

It was mid-November when we visited and hardly anyone was there. Check-in was done through a self-service box. We picked a back-in full hookup site for around $30 bucks. The sites were fairly large and level. Hookups were in OK shape but located at the rear of the RV. Our Verizon MIFi didn’t connect, but campground WiFi was available. We’ll likely return again on our way back home to see the elk and explore the surrounding area a bit more.
