We left Eden Pool after a week of mostly foggy mornings that cleared to sun by noon, with a few dinghy trips and underwater shots. On a perfect blue sky day with almost no wind, we headed out into Queen Charlotte Strait and Blackfish Sound.
Sea lions packed the rocks like sausages in the sun, a couple of humpbacks (looked like a mother and calf) passed close by, and we even caught a nice pink salmon for dinner. When the afternoon breeze picked up, we ducked back into the Broughtons and anchored at our familiar Madrona Island spot.
After a couple of cool, cloudy months up there, we were ready for real summer, so we started working our way south. We staged in Boughey Bay for a couple of nights waiting on Johnstone Strait, then left at 6 a.m. and had a glassy calm run down the strait with a helpful current. From there it was Sunderland Channel, Whirlpool Rapids, and Chancellor Channel into Blind Channel, where we tucked into Crawford Anchorage beside Erasmus Island.
The last few days here have been sunny and warm, a welcome change, and we’ll stay put for a bit before the eventual resupply run back toward land.
