We spent nearly a week anchored in the peaceful Gorge Harbour, in a quiet cove with no other boats around. The weather was mixed, mostly cloudy with some sunny breaks and occasional rain, typical for the month of June.

Leaving the harbor, Anne navigated through a narrow passage past stunning rock walls adorned with arbutus trees and rumored ancient petroglyphs, though I couldn’t spot them. The scenery was breathtaking, especially at low tide, with seals lounging on rocks and a beautiful spit visible as we passed through Uganda Passage.

Next, we headed up the side of Cortez Island to try anchoring in Carrington Bay, a picturesque spot despite its reportedly poor holding. The bay was calm, with minimal wind, and we found a protected anchor spot near a waterfall and lagoon. Though the holding was rocky, the weather forecast looked good, so we decided to stay a few hours to explore.

The sunset was stunning, and I dropped the dinghy to check out the nearby lagoon, where we found oysters, tide pools with sea stars, and a scenic trail with cedar trees and a small bridge.

The next day, with a northwest wind approaching, we decided to move on, unsure about the anchorage’s holding. We planned to head to Evans Bay or Bird Cove, both well-protected from the coming wind, for a new adventure. It was a serene and memorable stop, and we’re already looking forward to the next exploration.
