It’s mid-August, and we’ve been tucked into a quiet little anchorage called Crawford next to Erasmus Island near Blind Channel for about five days. The weather’s been sunny and warm, a nice change from up in the Broughtons, and we’ve mostly had the place to ourselves. We’ve seen sea otters, a couple of sea lions, and yesterday a whole pod of orcas passed right by the boat, one with a massive six-foot fin. That was the closest we’ve been to them since they came into Prideaux Haven a few years back.

Today we’re shoving off for Campbell River to top up the water tanks and grab some groceries, then across to Lund to check on the truck and RV. After that, we’ll head into Desolation Sound looking for a warm-water spot where we can swim and enjoy a bit more summer.

The trip down Cordero Channel included a quick look up Phillips Arm where the commercial boats were staging for a pink salmon opening, more orcas near Shoal Bay, a night in Chameleon Harbour, an early run through Seymour Narrows and Discovery Passage, a day at Fisherman’s Wharf, and an uneventful but a bit lumpy crossing of Georgia Strait. Everything checked out fine in Lund, so now we’re ready for a couple more weeks out on the water.
