In this video, I take you along on a morning hike into the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. We hike from the John Kellenback Trailhead through a patch of coastal forest and out onto the sand dunes. This part of the dunes is pretty well untouched by ATV tracks and has one rather towering sand dune. I hike to the top and give you a 360 view of the remarkable terrain.
After the dune hike, we visit a Highway 101 wayside viewpoint for an overlook at the coastline below, then drive down along Umpqua Beach. There I show a dune ATV staging area and some of the ocean beach. Next, I give you a look at the historic Umpqua River Lighthouse and the views out to the river mouth.
Finally, we head inland a bit and visit the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area and the Reedsport Riverfront district.
