Digitize Those RV Manuals
Norma posted this over in the Love Your RV Forum forums and I thought it was a terrific tip for all RVers. I know that I often times find myself digging through our box of manuals, warranty info, receipts, etc. looking for something. Half the time I can’t find the manual I’m looking for or it’s long lost. It would be great to have all our paperwork nicely organized in digital form.
Every time you get a new “toy” whether a tool, appliance, or some great new piece of electronics…hop online and find the digital versions of your manuals. Plop them into folders on your computer or better yet, on Dropbox or some other cloud solution. Throw the paper ones away. Scan in your receipt and you can ditch that, too!
Save and Organize on Computer
I have a portable hard drive where I keep backup copies of all my precious travel photos and videos. So, it is a no-brainer to also have copies of all my RV manuals sorted in convenient folders. As snowbirds, we need and carry an additional assortment of documents like insurance, pet papers, tax forms, etc. I could scan copies and set up a folder for those as well.
Upload to Online Storage
I also really like her idea of uploading them into some type of cloud storage. If your RV is in for repair it would be handy to share the online folder with the RV tech so he has all the pertinent information easily at hand when working on the rig. Hopefully, it will never happen, but if the RV ever is destroyed at least copies of important documents could be easily retrieved.
Norma mentioned Dropbox as an online storage solution. Another idea for Gmail users is the included Google drive which will open the PDF and Word DOC files right into the online Google Docs interface. It also syncs across your various digital devices so the info is easy to get to on your phone, tablet or computer. Even if you are borrowing a friends computer you can just log in to Gmail and get at the needed document quickly.
