When last I left you, we were resupplying in Port McNeill. After that, we headed out around Malcolm Island, did a bit of fishing, and I caught a pink salmon, then crossed Queen Charlotte Strait to one of our favourite protected anchorages, Eden Pool, right by Insect Island. We spent a week there in that quiet little spot with just enough room for our boat.
Highlights of the week included a dinghy trip all the way around Insect Island and checking out the nearby anchorage in Old Passage for future reference. We also explored at low tide with the underwater camera, spotting sea stars, crabs, anemones and clear-water kelp forests. Sea lions paid us a visit one evening and seemed a bit too interested in our anchor line. On the way into the anchorage, we spotted a deer, and its adorable little fawn!
Fishing produced a few rockfish, a small Scalpin with another fish in its mouth, and a rock sole; we also found a big sunflower star in our crab trap that we released. We even cooked one rockfish wrapped in fresh bull kelp. All in all a pretty good week,
