Well, another great stay in Evans Bay, but today we’re heading out since the winds have finally calmed down. We’re making our way up to Big Bay on Stuart Island to tie up at the community dock. Anne is hoping to photograph the eagles feeding on the fish run there, so we’re excited to see what we can capture.

Big Bay June 1 2026 (6)

We came from Campbell River via Read Island and settled into this beautiful spot with its narrow channels and ripping currents through places like Yuculta, Gillard Passage, Dent Rapids, and Devil’s Hole. We dinghied across and tied up to watch the eagles and sea life in the super clear water, though the birds stayed pretty far away this time.

It’s a picturesque area full of fancy resorts, fishing charters, and big homes on Stuart Island. We had the dock to ourselves for a nice, calm night before timing the slack tide to head back south through the passes, pick up some packages, and stock up in Campbell River.
