This summer, Anne and I embarked on an incredible boating adventure, navigating from Lund to the Broughton Archipelago and then further north to stunning Nimmo Bay. For five days, we were immersed in the beauty of this serene anchorage near the Nimmo Bay Wilderness Resort. Each morning, we were greeted with a gentle fog that slowly lifted to reveal sunny skies.

Our vantage point, floating in the bay, was perfect for spotting wildlife. We saw black bears foraging along the shore at low tide, their dark figures rummaging through the tide pools for crustaceans, shellfish, eels, worms, seaweed, etc. The bay was alive with birds, ospreys diving for fish, kingfishers darting about, ducks, crows, gulls, herons, and both adult and juvenile bald eagles perched majestically on branches.

The calm waters of Nimmo Bay, surrounded by lush rainforest and moss-draped trees, offered breathtaking views, especially at high tide when the water reached the tree line. We explored the estuary in our dinghy, capturing the vibrant ecosystem filled with red-throated loons, herons, and even playful salmon leaping from the water. The tranquility was occasionally broken by the hum of a neighboring boat’s generator, but the natural symphony of wildlife and gentle waves prevailed.

One highlight was the resort’s floating sauna platform, where guests could relax and take a refreshing dip in the ocean. Navigating the narrow, rock-strewn channel into the bay is a testament to Anne’s careful piloting, a task made more challenging by the rocky terrain.

As I departed Nemo Bay, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the wildlife, the serene anchorage, and even the simple joy of blowing bubbles that danced across the water, reflecting the world in their fleeting beauty. This adventure was a reminder of nature’s magic, and I’m already looking forward to our next stop.
