Coho Ferry Trip Raw Footage – Port Angeles to Victoria
Some random video footage I took aboard the Black Ball Ferry Line MV Coho ferry crossing from Port Angeles, WA, over to Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island. April 22nd, 2025, Gorgeous spring day with sunny skies and light wind.
We recently wrapped up our 24/25 snowbird trip, starting from an alpaca ranch near Carson City, Nevada, and making our way back to Canada. My wife Anne and I were eager to return to the Sacramento Wildlife Refuge in California’s Central Valley, where we’d stopped in the fall. This time, in spring, the valley was lush and green, and Anne was excited to photograph different birds. We stayed at Colusa Casino’s free overnight lot, which was conveniently close to the Colusa Wildlife Refuge, and explored the auto route. Anne captured some stunning shots of white-faced ibis, and we took advantage of the casino’s cheap diesel, free dump station, and water.
Next, we moved to a Harvest Host site at a Chico rice farm, just minutes from the main Sacramento Wildlife Refuge. We parked among silos, bought some farm-fresh sushi rice, and enjoyed a trip to the refuge. Anne photographed grebes doing their mating dance, but with temperatures climbing toward 90°F, dry camping got uncomfortable. We headed to a cooler spot at Rain Rock Casino, located near Mount Shasta, at an elevation of about 4,000 feet. The snow-capped peak was breathtaking. From there, we stopped at Seven Feathers Casino in Oregon for a couple of nights, fueling up with their affordable diesel and taking a break from driving.
To avoid Portland, we took the scenic coastal route, stopping at the Three Rivers Casino RV lot in Florence, which is transitioning into an RV park with hookups. We paid $20 for a night and enjoyed the proximity to Oregon’s dunes. Further up the coast, we stayed two nights at Blue Heron French Cheese Company, another Harvest Host, where Anne loved their brie, and I admired the old farm equipment and peacocks. Our final stops included River Run RV Park near Aberdeen, Washington, where I topped off propane, and Seven Cedars Casino in Sequim, a convenient base before catching the ferry to Vancouver Island. On April 22, we crossed back! Stay tuned as in the coming month we will be getting the boat ready for another summer on the water.
