In this video, I tested BougeRV’s new DC-to-DC alternator charger (model DC600) for charging portable power stations from your vehicle’s battery. They call it a charger, but in reality, it’s a voltage converter that steps up 12 or 24 volts from your vehicle’s alternator/battery system to 15-60 volts for the power station’s DC input. The actual charging happens inside the power station.

Max output is 600W, adjustable via the BougeRV app. Default is 300W at 30V. In my test, it was able output the advertised 600 watts of power into a Bluetti power station from my Ram pickups alternator.

Note: this was sent to me as a free review sample.

The kit includes the unit, a 5-meter (16.5ft) 6-gauge cable (pre-tinned, very flexible), XT60 to MC4 connectors output cable, in-fuse, and mounting hardware. One important note: the included 60A fuse is far away from the battery, leaving most of the cable unprotected. I strongly recommend adding a terminal fuse at the battery’s positive post to prevent risk from an accidentally short-circuited cable.

Installation is straightforward, and the app lets you adjust the output voltage, temperature units C/F, etc. Efficiency is over 95%, idle draw is under 50 mA, and it has a small cooling fan. Build quality looks OK, and it comes with an 18-month warranty.

Overall, it performed great in my truck, with easy setup, reliable charging, and good app control. Just remember to fuse it properly at the battery end and that it’s designed specifically for power stations, not direct RV 12V battery charging.
