In this first of several planned review videos, I unbox and test out a new portable diesel heater from BougeRV. I show the items provided, hook everything up, and fire it up. The heater runs on diesel fuel, producing a maximum of 5 kW of heating power. 12VDC is used to power the igniter, fuel pump, and fans.
The power draw ranges from as low as 10 watts to 60 watts, depending on the heat setting, and up to 150 watts during start-up. Fuel consumption is listed at 0.18-0.53 Liters per Hour, and tank capacity is 5 liters. The unit is relatively lightweight, weighing 22 lbs, and features a stainless steel cover.
My early takeaways from this unit are that it is easy to assemble, intuitive to use, and produces decent heat. Having a smartphone app and a fob wireless controller is quite handy. Overall, the construction appears to be of good quality.
Cons for me are a dim control panel display, loud fan noise when at max heat settings, and the case is not weather-resistant. BougeRV also informed me that it cannot be used indoors.
In review video number two, I’ll remove the cover so we can take a look inside at the build quality and how it works. My plan is to utilize this heater to heat my RV skirting this winter to prevent plumbing freeze-ups and warm the floors.
*Fair Disclosure* I received the product as a complimentary review sample. However, I received no monetary compensation and have complete editorial control of the content.
RV Skirting Heating Test and a Look Inside
In this follow-up video, I pull the cover, and we get a peek inside to see how it is built. Then set it up to pump hot air under my winter RV skirting. Doing this should protect my RV’s plumbing from freezing during cold snaps, reduce undercarriage corrosion, and warm up our interior floors. This will be my main use case for this all-in-one diesel heater. I’m happy with the results and look forward to continuing to test it over the winter season in the RV. I plan to build a shelter for it out of a plastic tote bin. Stay tuned.
DIY Shelter for Winter RV Skirting
Since the BougeRV diesel heater isn’t intended for indoor use and isn’t weatherproof, I decided to build a shelter for it out of a large plastic storage tote. I used some 2x2s to make a frame under it to sit on, cut holes for the pipes/electrical cord, then added a dryer vent to shield the exhaust. I also shortened the OEM exhaust pipe.
