In this video, scenic trip views from Booker Lagoon, Cullen Harbour, Fife Sound, Penphrase Channel, entrance to Kingcome Inlet, and Moore Bay. I also point out various locations along the way that we visited last season, such as Echo Bay, Kwatsi Bay, and Simoom Sound. We run across a large flock of Western Grebes! These are the same breed of bird we often see at the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge.

We planned to use Moore Bay just as a base to take a day trip up Kingcome Inlet. But it turns out to be one of our favorite spots so far this season. It’s very peaceful with decent fishing, pretty views, seals, eagles, porpoises, and a small forest rec area with a dinghy dock.

Most days, it’s just been us or one or two other boats in this large bay. I’ve caught a couple of large rock fish, but unfortunately, they weren’t keepers. Both were the brilliant-colored Yelloweye Rockfish, which are endangered, so they must be returned.
I use a special decender hook with a weight to help lower them back to the deep. It dramatically increases their chance of survival by allowing them to repressurize. Often when they come up from the deep, their swim bladder is so expanded they can’t swim back down.

Stay tuned for the next video as we travel up Kingcome Inlet. Kingcome is amazing! Being glacier-fed, the waters become a beautiful turquoise and pale green near the end of it. Combined with the steep mountains all around it, the views are fantastic!
