In this video, I’m checking out a new power station from DJI, the company famous for drones. They have the Power 500 and Power 1000, but this is their new Power 2000. They asked me to review it. I’ll split it into a few videos. This first one covers the main features and tests the AC power side and the 12V car power adapter.

What makes this unit different is its unique plugs. The DC inputs and outputs use proprietary SDC (Software Defined Charging) connectors. The DC connectors are bidirectional. When you plug something in, it negotiates the exact voltage the device needs. This improves efficiency and charging speed for items like their DJI drones.

It also has a 30-amp RV-style AC outlet that delivers about 25 amps at 3000 watts total output, plus three regular 20-amp outlets. For powering USB devices, there are four USB-A 24-watt ports, two 140-watt USB-C ports, and two 65-watt USB-C ports.  The Power 2000 weighs in at about 50 pounds, has a super bright display you can actually see in sunlight, a basic app, and the quietest fan I have ever heard, even under heavy load.

I tested it by plugging my 30-amp RV into it and running the microwave plus a 1500-watt heater. It outputted 3000 watts AC without any trouble. The display shows remaining capacity, a nice graph, and estimated runtime that adjusts as the load changes. For charging, it can pull up to 1800 watts in super recharge mode from a wall outlet, and it also accepts 12-volt input through the SDC ports, though that was slow in my test. The hardware feels well-built and solid.

There is a lot to like here, especially the bright screen, quiet operation, and strong power output. The proprietary connectors are a double-edged sword. They enable fast bidirectional charging, which is great for DJI drones, but they lock you into their ecosystem and require extra dongles/cables to use.

It is convenient for RVers or boaters with the 30-amp plug and offers good expansion options, including an MPPT solar attachment coming later. Overall, it seems like a quality unit aimed at campers, boaters, photographers, and drone users who want fast, efficient power on the go. I’ll test more features in future videos.

Part 2 – Optional Solar Adapter Demos and Review

In this second review video for the DJI Power 2000 portable power station, I demonstrate two ways to power it with solar energy. One via the car charger adapter shown in the first video (100W max), and two via an add-on MPPT Solar Panel Adapter (400W max).

Both methods worked fine, but I’m not a fan of the proprietary SDC connectors. Though they offer advantages for charging drones and delivering high-wattage DC power, they require the use of various add-on devices. This increases the setup’s complexity.
