I’ve augmented our RV and boat refrigerator for five years with a second portable AC/DC unit. The portable unit can be a fridge or a deep freezer, which allows for many handy uses while camping.
I use it in fridge mode to slowly defrost large pieces of meat like roasts or turkey, store beverages for parties, or keep groceries cool when transporting them back from shopping. In freezer mode, it expands our frozen food storage capacity greatly. We can stay in remote locations longer and save money by buying meat in bulk or when on sale.
Recently, ICECO contacted me and offered me one of their JP Pro Series portable fridges/freezers for review. Based on several interesting features, I decided to accept the offer.
- SECOP Compressor from Germany for top-tier efficiency, with minimal noise, and backed by a 5-year warranty
- 50 Quart Capacity
- Narrow design with handle and wheels
- Multi-Directional Lid: Access from the left, right, or fully open.
- Optional Magnetic Battery Power Pack
- Self Cleaning UV Light
- AC to DC Converter Built-in
- Padded Insulated Cover Included
Fair Disclosure: I received a review sample free of charge. I received no money and maintained full editorial control over the video content.
I’ve decided to split the review into two videos. First, I will go over what’s included, the physical look, all the specs and features, and a short demo of the fridge in action. Then, I will put it to the real-world test and use it during our upcoming RV trip to the USA Southwest for months of off-grid camping. I’ll return with a second video documenting my likes and dislikes and how it performed compared to others I have used.
Part One – Features, Physical Look & Quick Demo
Part 2 – Update Look Inside at the Compressor
In this video, a 2-month update on the ICECO JP50 Pro AC/DC portable fridge freezer I’m testing out this winter. I give my review summary so far and look inside at the unit’s guts, including the compressor. One big selling point is the product uses a Secop (formally known as Danfoss) compressor. They are touted as one of the best DC compressors for portable fridges. Sure enough, there is a Secop BD35F compressor, but I did note it’s made in China. I’ll be back after a few more months of testing with my final review for you. Stay tuned.

Update – How I Use It on the Boat (ICECO JP50 Pro)
Longer-term update on the ICECO JP50 Pro portable AC/DC fridge-freezer I reviewed last fall. We have been using it on our boat for the last 2 months as a deep freeze with good results. There are a few minor issues I dislike, including the build quality of the interior walls and floor, the small wheels, and the absence of a Bluetooth app. But overall, it runs quietly, keeps stuff really frozen, and only draws around 50 watts. Plus thumbs up on the included zippered padded thermal foiled cover!
