In this video, I install an under-sink reverse osmosis water filter system with UV purification. Model Q3-600UV from SimPure. The installation went well overall, except for a problem with the fresh water line. My RV uses a straight PEX pipe, so I had to buy a couple of Sharkbite fittings to make it work.
Then I found a tapered Sharkbite mating to a straight threaded shut-off valve. A leak resulted, which I resolved for the time being with yellow Teflon tape around the threads. We’ll use this product in the RV for the next few months, and I’ll return with a review video.
Review Update
An update on the Simpure water filter system I installed in my RV in January. After five to six months of use, this system, which features reverse osmosis, UV, and carbon filtration, worked exceptionally well, especially in desert areas with hard well water. It improved the water’s taste and ensured purity with UV treatment. The carbon filter has reached a little less than half-life, according to the LED readout, but the RO filter is still in good shape. I’ll replace the filters for next season, but I won’t use this system on my boat, as BC’s soft water doesn’t need the RO filtration I find. There were no leaks in the plumbing or shut-off valve, although the reverse osmosis process expels some wastewater, which wasn’t an issue for us while boondocking, as we don’t need to be that strict at water conservation. Overall, it’s been great for clean, tasty drinking water straight from the tap.
