We set out from Owen Bay, Sonora Island, through the lower rapids of Okisollo Channel and into Discovery Passage. We only spent a short time traveling up the passage, only as far as Chatham Point’s lighthouse. At that point, we turned into Nodales Channel and up into the coastal channels and inlets to avoid the rougher weather of Johnstone Strait.

Unsure of where to anchor, we considered Chameleon Bay, Thurston Bay, and Shoal Bay but decided to explore further up into Cordero Channel. Along the way, we spotted beachcombers collecting logs and a small herd of elk in Philips Arm, a place where we’d previously seen a grizzly bear.

We settled into Crawford Anchorage for the night. A sheltered, peaceful spot we’d scoped out last year. The day was spectacular, with sunny skies, calm waters, and a variety of wildlife, including kingfishers and seals. Now, far from civilization, the rural coast feels even wilder and more untouched. Next, we plan to head to Forward Harbour, then up to the Broughtons for the next month and a half.
