In the last video, we came up to Forward Harbour from Campbell River and anchored in Douglas Bay all by ourselves. The weather out in Johnstone Strait was pretty rough with winds of 20 to 30 knots, so we decided to stay put. More boats joined us seeking refuge as it got windier out there. It is a beautiful spot, though, with a pretty mountain at the end of the bay still carrying a good snow pack. The weather was warming up nicely, and we hoped to make a run the next day or the day after.
We got a good weather window early the next morning and left at sunrise when it was nice and calm. Conditions in Johnstone Strait turned out decent with light winds and no steep waves, so we made steady progress north along with a bunch of other boats. Anne took the wheel inside for a bit when it got breezy. We saw an eagle dive for a fish and swim it to shore, which was pretty cool to watch. We made it through and anchored in peaceful Boughey Bay for the night. It is just us and one other sailboat here with perfect reflections on the water at low tide. I spotted a cute family of Canada geese walking on the mudflats and kept an eye out for bears. Stay tuned as we plan to head up to Potts Lagoon next.
