We bid farewell to our little nook in O’Brien Bay in Simoon Sound after almost a week. It was a great refuge to ride out the wind and rain, but now the forecast looks calm, so we’re heading out to explore.

We motored through Penphrase Passage into Kingcome Inlet and up toward Belleisle Sound to check out a possible anchorage in one of the only relatively shallow nooks in this deep, narrow body of water.

The scenery was stunning with steep mountains, waterfalls, and that beautiful green glacier-fed water.

Thankfully, the sun made a return appearance, so our 1240 watts of solar panels scattered around the boat were often cranking out up to 70 amps on the way. Add to that 70 amps from our gas generator and the boat engine alternator at 25 amps, and we had everything charging nicely. After about 4-5 days with little sunlight, our batteries needed a boost!
Solar Panels we are utilizing on our boat for this season:
- 2 – 200-watt BougeRV CIGS Panels
- 2 – 195-watt Renogy ShadowFlux Panels
- 1 – 450-watt ZOUPW Folding Panel
- 1 – 200-watt Bluetti Folding Panel
We decided against anchoring there, though, because it was very deep, close to shore, with possible debris from old logging, and a southwest wind was funnelling in strongly. Overall, the weather has been quite unsettled lately. So instead of changing, we got stuck there, and we headed back down to Moore Bay, where we anchored across from Thief Island. We’ve anchored in this spot before during stormy conditions, and it proved to be a safe anchorage.

It rained heavily early the next morning, so we decided to stay at anchor for the day and move on the next day. I love this location. It always serves up gorgeous scenery after rain, as the mist, fog, and clouds cling to the surrounding forested hillsides.
