Last week, I faced a nagging toothache while anchored at Evans Bay, Read Island. The pain worsened, so we navigated through rough waters down the Sutil Channel, around Cape Mudge, and into Campbell River. We docked at Discovery Harbor Marina for a night, where I visited a dentist who recommended extracting the troublesome tooth.
With an appointment set for Monday, we opted to save costs and anchored in Gowlland Harbour across Discovery Passage for a few days, enjoying some crabbing and catching a couple of nice Dungeness crabs for dinner.
On Monday, we relocated to the more economical Fisherman’s Wharf Marina in Campbell River, which is conveniently located near my dental office. The extraction went smoothly, and since our visit coincided with Canada Day, we stayed an extra day to catch the spectacular fireworks display from our prime spot at the marina.
The next day, we planned to head north up Johnstone Strait, but persistent northwest winds forced us to change course. Instead, we sailed to Von Donop Inlet, one of our favorite spots, where we’re currently waiting for calmer weather to continue our journey north.
