We’ve just left Port McNeill after resupplying at the marina for a couple of nights and are heading back into the Broughtons. We’re coming into Blackfish Sound now with sunny weather forecast for the next week or so, which is a nice change after all the clouds and rain lately. The water is calm, clouds are breaking up, and we spotted a pack of young sea otters playing around the boat before a humpback whale swam by.
We dropped the hook, trying for salmon, but ended up catching a tasty little kelp greenling instead. Later, we anchored near Seabreeze Island in the Broughton Archipelago. We had some good luck with crabbing and ate one crab and kelp greenling for dinner.
The next day, we enjoyed a beautiful sunny day out in Blackfish Sound. We saw orcas, more humpbacks, a big eagle feeding frenzy on bait balls, and even cruise ships passing through. It was our first really warm, calm day up here.
That afternoon, the wind picked up, so we ended up anchoring in Sprout Island Cove, Hansen Island, for the night with a great view. The next morning was peaceful with a bit of fog. What an awesome stretch of wildlife and exploration.
