In the last couple of years, I’ve tested and reviewed several items from a company called BougeRV. There was a portable 50L AC/DC fridge freezer, 170 & 180W solar panels, and a 40 amp MPPT solar charge controller. All are still working fine for me.
They are on the lower-end price-wise compared to similar items from big name brands. So, they are a pretty good bang for the buck. The trade-off is dealing with an online company based in China. But they have been around for a few years now and seem eager to prove themselves.
Recently BougeRV has come out with a new 40 amp solar controller that is a step above the last one I reviewed. It has a built-in digital display and Bluetooth functionality. An app called ChargePro 2.0 can be downloaded for Android or IOS. The solar charge can be monitored via the app display, and controller settings are easily adjusted.
*Fair Disclosure* I received the BougeRV solar controller as a free review sample.
The controller has a hefty aluminum heat sink on the back, so it doesn’t require a fan. The front panel is glass for further heat dissipation and an attractive look. The case is rated IP34 water-resistant – protected from water spray from any direction.
The product includes six safety protections covering over-high temperature, open-circuit, short-circuit, overload, reverse polarity, and reverse-current faults. Other noteworthy features include max solar input voltage as high as 150V, Max solar power of 600W/12V; 1200W/24V; 1800W/36V; 2400W/48V, and handles battery system voltages of 12/24/36/48 volts.
Compatible battery types include Flooded and Seal Lead Acid, Gel AGM, and Lithium. Not bad for a controller listing for $149.99.
In this video, I unbox, go through the various features, demo it in action, and install it into my fifth-wheel trailer. After some longer-term use, I plan a second video with my overall review. Stay tuned.

Review Update after 9 Months
In this video, I return with an update on the solar controller review after using it for 9 months in various solar system setups. Overall it has worked well, but there are a few drawbacks to this controller, which I will go over. I also take it apart and give you a look inside at how it’s built.
